Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the third-party company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you send a message, we retain it as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, ordinary server and analytics logs can collect technical details about the visit:
- Page-view dates, times, and visit duration
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- Visited pages and referring site, when available
- The internet protocol address assigned to the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as popular pages and common exit points. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Sending a submitted query to the selected partner service
- Maintaining site speed, availability, and security
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Measuring which pages are useful or need revision

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Connecticut Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material points to Connecticut SPBI, the Judicial Branch, CT DOC, the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry, and the local police agencies that hold official source records. Connecticut has no county sheriff or county clerk system. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. A partner's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices govern data entered into its tool. Review those terms before submitting a query because we do not control the partner's processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Connecticut agencies, Judicial Branch resources, locality pages, legal services, and third-party tools. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may track activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs on their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners receiving queries submitted through their tools
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices protect information we collect. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 and will delete identified minor data when properly notified.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights over personal data. Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act, principally CGS §§1-200 through 1-242, governs qualifying records held by public agencies, not visitor information held by this private site. Likewise, CGS §54-142k limits dissemination of nonconviction criminal-history information by covered record holders; it does not convert this site into an official custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
